Amazon Brand Registry from Pakistan: Which Trademark Works

Amazon Brand Registry needs a trademark from a country with an Amazon store. Pakistan has none. See which trademarks Pakistani sellers use and how to enrol.

Part of the Amazon sellers guide hub →

Short answer: A trademark registered only in Pakistan does not qualify for Amazon Brand Registry. Amazon accepts a pending or registered trademark from the trademark office of a country that has a corresponding Amazon store, and Pakistan has no Amazon store. Pakistani brand owners usually file in the country where they sell, most often the United States, or in another eligible office such as the UAE.

What Amazon requires

Amazon's Brand Registry page sets out the requirements in plain terms. You need to:

  • "Have a pending or registered trademark for your brand name or logo", issued by the designated government trademark office of a country with a corresponding Amazon store.
  • "Have a logo that includes your brand name permanently affixed to your products or packaging."
  • Own the trademark. Agencies and other authorised agents cannot enrol a brand they do not own. The owner enrols, then adds the agent as a user.

The exact list of accepted offices for each Amazon store is shown inside the Brand Registry portal after you sign in. Check it there before you file anything.

Why a Pakistani trademark is not enough

Amazon ties eligibility to countries that have an Amazon store. Pakistan does not have one, so the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan is not an accepted office for Brand Registry.

A Pakistani registration still has value. It protects your brand at home, and it can serve as the basis for international filings. It just does not unlock Brand Registry on its own.

Which trademark Pakistani sellers use instead

Pick the office that matches the store where you sell:

You sell mainly on Trademark office to consider Why
Amazon.com (US) United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) The US store accepts US trademarks, and a pending US application can be enough to enrol
Amazon.ae (UAE) UAE Ministry of Economy The UAE has an Amazon store; a US trademark does not cover the UAE
Amazon.co.uk or EU stores UK IPO or the EU trademark office (EUIPO) Match the region you sell in

Some sellers file through the international Madrid system, designating the countries they need. Whichever route you choose, the application has to be filed in the name of the brand owner, and the brand on the trademark must match the brand on the products and packaging.

Pending applications

Amazon says that in some cases you can enrol with a pending trademark application. That lets many sellers start Brand Registry while the trademark office examines the filing. Examination can take months, and an application can still be refused, so treat a pending application as a start, not a guarantee.

How to enrol, step by step

  1. File the trademark in an eligible office, in the brand owner's name.
  2. Put the brand on the product or packaging, permanently, in the same form as the trademark.
  3. Sign in to Brand Registry with your Amazon account and choose "Enroll a new brand".
  4. Enter the trademark office and the application or registration number.
  5. Answer Amazon's verification. Amazon checks that you control the trademark, which can involve the contact listed on the trademark record. Make sure your attorney or filing agent can respond quickly.

Common mistakes

  • Filing in someone else's name. If an agency or a relative files the trademark, they own it, not you.
  • A logo that differs from the trademark. The mark on the packaging has to match what you registered.
  • Using a Pakistani registration only. It protects you at home but does not qualify for Brand Registry.
  • Choosing the wrong country. A US trademark does not help on Amazon.ae, and the reverse is also true.
