Overtime calculator with US, Pakistan and UAE presets
Enter an hourly rate or a monthly salary and the hours worked this week to see regular pay, overtime pay and the weekly total. Presets fill in common rules; you can change every number. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
How the calculation works
- Regular hourly rate = the hourly rate, or monthly salary ÷ regular hours per month.
- Regular hours = hours worked, up to the weekly limit.
- Overtime hours = hours worked above the weekly limit.
- Overtime pay = overtime hours × regular hourly rate × overtime multiplier.
- Total pay = regular pay + overtime pay.
About the presets
The presets are general starting points, not legal advice. Who is covered, the weekly limit and the rate depend on the law, the type of job and the employment contract, so check the rules that apply to your team.
- United States: the Fair Labor Standards Act requires at least one and a half times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek for covered non-exempt employees.
- Pakistan: the Factories Act 1934 and the Shops and Establishments Ordinance 1969 set a 48-hour week and overtime at twice the ordinary rate for workers they cover.
- UAE: Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 sets a 48-hour week and overtime pay of at least 25% above the basic hourly wage, or at least 50% for overtime between 10 PM and 4 AM.
- United Kingdom: there is no legal right to an overtime premium; the contract decides, but average pay for all hours must not fall below the minimum wage.
Keep overtime records clean
Overtime disputes usually come from unclear records: when a shift started, when it ended and which hours were approved. Record check-in and check-out times automatically and approve overtime before the payroll run.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate overtime pay?+
Multiply the overtime hours by the regular hourly rate and by the overtime multiplier, for example 8 hours × 15 × 1.5 = 180. Add that to regular pay for the total.
How do I find an hourly rate from a monthly salary?+
Divide the monthly salary by regular hours per month. A 40-hour week is about 173 hours a month (40 × 52 ÷ 12); a 48-hour week is about 208.
What is time and a half?+
Overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. Double time is 2 times the regular rate.
Are the presets legal advice?+
No. They are general starting points. Coverage and rates depend on the law, the job and the contract, so check the rules that apply to you.
Does this calculator store my numbers?+
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to us.
